- Rev. J. L. Jones 1937 – 1952
- Rev. J. A. Causey 1952 – 1964

FUTURE FORWARD
On August 23, 2013, the Pastoral transition was made from Rev. John H. Rice, who faithfully served as Pastor of St. Bethel Baptist Church for 40 years, to Rev. Lawrence J. Blackful Jr., who served as an associate minister for 19 years.
Under Pastor Blackful’s leadership, there has been an emphasis on spiritual growth and maturity necessary to develop the believers’ walk with Christ. The focus has been on worship, studying God’s word, and putting God first in every area of the believer’s life. One of his mottoes is First Things First…Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
As Senior Pastor, Reverend Blackful has invested time, resources, and training to develop the leadership skills of the ministerial team and other ministry leaders. He believes leaders should have influence as well as impact in whatever area of ministry they have been called to serve.
Through Pastor Blackful’s visionary leadership, in June 2016, Bethel Church underwent a complete renovation. The existing church building was modernized to provide a brand-new church in the existing structure. In 2022, a total renovation and modernization of the Bethel Family Resource Center (BFRC) formally known as Bethel Community Facility was completed.
As CEO of BFRC, Pastor Blackful, and his team has implemented pre-apprentice training programs for youth as well as adults. This opportunity prepares students for careers in the construction industry. The goal to transform Chicago Heights and other underserved communities will be accomplished by equipping and empowering residents through such training.
BFRC continues to be a beacon of hope serving residents and the homeless population of the Chicagoland area.
